Windrush Commissioner Appointed
NHACC Joins Historic Launch of the UK’s First Windrush Commissioner
On 16 July 2025, the NHACC office team travelled to Hackney Town Hall to attend the official launch of the Office of the Windrush Commissioner—marking a significant milestone in the UK’s journey toward Windrush Justice. Reverend Clive Foster MBE (pictured on the right with NHACC CEO, Kava), newly appointed as the first Windrush Commissioner, welcomed over 50 organisations working in the Windrush space to celebrate the beginning of his three-year term.
The event was a vibrant and moving occasion, featuring performances from singers and poets, reflections from members of the Windrush Generation, and a powerful sit-down discussion with Seema Malhotra MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Migration and Citizenship. A Caribbean lunch was shared in honour of the Commissioner’s cultural heritage, creating space for connection, storytelling, and solidarity.
For NHACC, the day was more than ceremonial—it was a chance to stand alongside fellow advocates, share updates on our work across North Hertfordshire and Luton, and reaffirm our commitment to supporting individuals through the Windrush Compensation Scheme. Honest conversations were had about the challenges ahead, and the energy in the room was one of hope, unity, and determination.
Reverend Foster’s appointment signals a new chapter in the fight for justice. His national listening tour will bring him face-to-face with communities across the UK—including, we hope, a future visit to North Hertfordshire. We look forward to welcoming him and continuing our shared mission to ensure that every Windrush story is heard, honoured, and supported.
