THE WINDRUSH JUSTICE PROGRAMME
Formerly the Windrush Compensation Scheme
The Windrush Justice Programme was created to support people affected by the Windrush Scandal. Led by Action for Race Equality, it helps small organisations give practical support to those who were wrongly treated by the UK government—like being denied jobs, housing, healthcare, or even deported.
Under the Windrush Justice Programme, we work in partnership with the Home Office to help victims of the Windrush scandal get information and compensation for their claims of wrongdoing by the UK government. We provide a free Windrush Justice Service of drop-ins, 1-to-1 appointments and information surgeries to the local community. Our service is backed up with free legal support too, through our partner organisations.
As part of our service, clients are encouraged to tell their stories of how they, and often members of their family, were affected by theWindrush scandal. We are here to get your voices heard by taking you through the Windrush claims application process to see if you are eligible for compensation. Lots of work goes into making a claim and it can be a lengthy process. So in June 2025, the Home Secretary appointed the nation’s first Windrush Commissioner to deliver on the government’s commitment to get justice for Windrush victims more quickly and efficiently. It’s a major boost to the claims process and we are taking full advantage.
